Touring family theatre in the Delaware Valley.....

It all began in 1980 after Elise and Steve Seyfried completed a year and half touring the Northeastern U.S. with educational program for schools. They settled in Philadelphia and began performing their own two-actor, story theatre plays as Duet Productions. Their first show was THE WIZARD OF OZ. This husband and wife team has developed a dynamic and fun-filled style of theatre. Their shows are fast-paced and directed toward all members of their audience, children and parents alike. The plays feature lightning-quick costume changes and a broad sense of humor. Elise and Steve have collaborated on 15 children's theatre adaptations ranging from such popular titles as CINDERELLA, PETER PAN and SNOW WHITE to more unusual material - THE MAGIC FLUTE, THE LEGEND OF FINN McCOOL and JARED'S ISLAND. Through the years an acting company was established to handle the demand for shows. Most of the plays, however, have still been performed in the two-actor format. While devoting time to their business, Elise and Steve also found time to devote to their own five children. Eight years ago Elise became director of Spiritual Formation at Christ's Lutheran Church in Oreland, PA and recently published her first book, Unhaling: On God, Grace and a Perfectly Imperfect Life. Steve has taken over much of the writing and directing responsibilities. He has concentrated more recently on educational programs for schools, producing historical scripts (THE COLUMBUS DAY SAIL, WOMEN OF THE WEST, MILLENNIUM MILESTONES) and folktales from around the world including THE SILVER PHOENIX (China), ANDROCLES AND THE LION (Greece), PUSS IN BOOTS (France), ANANSI THE TRICKSTER (Africa) and RIP VAN WINKLE (America) Steve and Elise have founded two organizations to produce their shows in public venues. In 1982 they started the Rehoboth Summer Children's Theatre on the Delaware Shore. This series encompasses an eleven week repertory season in addition to workshops and outreach programs for the residents and visitors of Southern Delaware. In the winter they produce Family Stages with performances in Oreland, and Trappe, PA. These shows attract the public at large and are very popular with school groups as well. Family Stages also conducts a popular series of workshops, classes and camps, bringing creative dramatics into the lives of children and families. The Seyfrieds' theatrical activities are not limited to children's theatre. They have also written comedy revues including TWO OFF THE AISLE and PARENTS "R" US. Elise and Steve have written the lyrics for the musical FLIGHT, based on the early life of Howard Hughes. Steve has also written the book for this show. In April of 1999 the Seyfrieds were presented a Stanley Drama Award by Terrence McNally for their work on FLIGHT. In the past few years Family Stages has partnered with the Copernicus Society of America to produce plays on Polish icons Nicholas Copernicus and General Tadeuz Kosciuszko. Kosciuszko’s story, THE SEEDS OF FREEDOM, has been performed on several occasions at Independence National Park in Philadelphia. Steve's other writings include several historical plays THE BALANCING ACT, MY NAME IS LEWES and THE GEORGETOWN HUNDRED and one full-length large-cast children's show TROUBLE, adapted from the writings of Delaware illustrator and author Howard Pyle. The shows of Family Stages, Duet Productions and RSCT reflect the Seyfrieds' commitment to top quality programs for family audiences – imaginative, entertaining and informative. It’s a commitment that began in 1980 and continues to this day.
